27.06.2015 - 01:30, Argentina - Colombia Tip 1 @ 1.90, Pinnbet, 4/10

,,Argentina vs Colombia

Messi to make the difference

TEAM NEWS

Argentina manager Gerardo Martino has no suspension worries and is only missing back-up goalkeeper Mariano Andujar through injury. Sergio Aguero has recovered from his shoulder injury and will come back in for Gonzalo Higuain whilst Nicolas Otamendi returns to replace Martin Demichelis at the back.

Colombia are without key midfield duo Carlos Sanchez and Edwin Valencia for this quarter-final clash – a big blow, especially as they could have asked Sanchez to stop Lionel Messi as he stopped Neymar last week. Alexander Meija is expected to fill in that role. Forward Carlos Bacca is still suspended after being sent off for violent conduct after the final whistle of the Brazil match. The team have had issues scoring goals and Radamel Falcao could make way for a change in tactics.

Argentina

Injured/unavailable: Mariano Andujar (hand)

Colombia

Doubtful: None

Injured/unavailable: Edwin Valencia (knee)

MATCH PREVIEW

Despite winning their group fairly easily, Argentina have yet to hit top form. Two clean sheets since their second half collapse against Paraguay in their opener gives their fans confidence that the defence isn’t the biggest issue with this side. Much like in the World Cup last year, Argentina haven’t scored as many goals as expected. Their route to winning the Copa America may still include playing Brazil and hosts Chile, so if they are to win their first piece of silverware since 1993, then they will probably have to do it the hard way.

Colombia had Brazil’s victory over Venezuela to thank for their progress to the knockout stages after failing to score in their defeat to Venezuela and draw against Peru, leaving them on the brink of elimination. Third place in Group C has been disappointing and the team’s punishment is now a match against the Copa America favourites Argentina. Jose Pekerman’s men will point to their dominant and impressive 1-0 victory over Brazil as evidence that they can raise their game for this one, but without some key men it could prove too tough. Colombia haven’t conceded since their first group game, yet they have only scored one goal all tournament.

I’m backing Argentina’s stars such as Lionel Messi and Sergio Aguero to take advantage of a weakened Colombia side and win this one.

HEAD TO HEAD

Argentina have the superior record in this fixture and the Colombians haven’t beaten them since 2007 (four attempts). The last meeting ended in a 0-0 draw in Argentina in World Cup qualifying back in 2013. They also drew 0-0 in the Copa America four years ago

MATCH PREVIEW
FC Dallas will be excited for this match for more than one reason. Houston are paying a visit and a match against the club's biggest rivals is reason enough for excitement but FC Dallas are also playing a home match for the first time since 15 May. FC Dallas have had to endure five consecutive road matches and have not fared well at all, losing three and drawing two while scoring just twice in those matches. The club's enthusiasm will be high and players like forward Fabian Castillo and midfielder Mauro Diaz will certainly contribute more because of it.
Houston Dynamo meanwhile have been hit with inconsistency and back luck. The club felt they were wrongly disallowed a goal at Portland that would have given them an early lead. Instead Houston were unable to score and gave away a penalty kick in losing 2-0. Houston's results have been mixed of late - one win from their last four matches - but the team is fighting. That fight will have to be amplified though if Houston want to compete with a charged FC Dallas side.
FC Dallas will put more pressure on Houston's backline than they can handle.
Look for FC Dallas to win.
HEAD TO HEAD
FC Dallas beat Houston by 4-1 on 1 May at Houston; FC Dallas have won the last five meetings between the two teams.
